LSEG is working on a $3.5 billion takeover of financial data firm Octus.

LSEG announced on Tuesday that it was in negotiations with Permira, a private equity firm, to acquire Octus, a financial data supplier based in New York, for around $3.5 billion.

By focusing on Octus, a pioneer in sub-investment-grade credit intelligence with substantial AI integration and datasets, LSEG hopes to increase its data and analytics footprint.

With over 40,000 credit specialists as subscribers and a vast leveraged finance data repository, Octus, supported by Permira, provides AI-embedded processes, legal, and financial research.

This action would advance LSEG’s objective of expanding its data-centric offerings—it is now the only supplier of Reuters news—and pursuing AI-enabled platforms through its Workspace ecosystem.
