OpenAI has locked in $11 billion in fresh funding, according to a source familiar with the deal who spoke on Friday. The money is only the first installment of a larger round that puts the company’s valuation at $1.25 trillion.
So far, the amount raised falls well short of the roughly $30 billion OpenAI originally aimed for. Two investors also said the valuation is lower than the $1.5 trillion the company first pursued.

SoftBank and MGX took part in the round, according to the investors. Bloomberg News was the first to report the funding earlier on Friday.
Enthusiasm for AI companies has cooled over the past month. Some investors now put the value of rival Anthropic’s planned IPO at around $1.5 trillion, down from earlier expectations of about $2 trillion.
