Toyota will convert old vehicles to electric to achieve Net-Zero emissions. – CEO Akio Toyoda.

Toyota suggests simply installing cleaner technology like fuel cells and electric motors inside of existing vehicles to expedite the global transition to sustainable transportation.

At the Tokyo Auto Salon, an industry gathering akin to auto exhibits around the world, chief executive Akio Toyoda declared on Friday, “I don’t want to leave any vehicle fan behind.”

The message was crystal clear: Contrary to what some critics have claimed, Toyota does not believe it has fallen behind in the development of electric vehicles.

Behind the luxury Lexus brands and the Prius hybrid, Japan’s top automaker is showcasing its dominance: It has all the engineering, technology, financial resources, and market expertise required to continue to be a formidable rival in green vehicles.

As just a small percentage of new automobiles sold, Mr. Toyoda told reporters that it would take a while for all cars to have zero emissions.

The best choice, in his opinion, was to “convert” vintage cars to run on green fuel.

The company’s founder’s grandson, Mr. Toyoda, who enjoys racing himself, also hoped to dispel the myth that clean cars are less entertaining than conventional vehicles.
