The Information revealed on Friday that Nvidia may invest up to $3 billion in Lancium, a business that develops power infrastructure and is responsible for the Stargate data center site in Texas.
The chipmaker plans to pay an initial $2 billion for a roughly 20% interest in Lancium, which is supported by Blackstone.
Nvidia might contribute an extra $1 billion if the company achieves specific requirements, such as grid hookups.
The enterprise value of Lancium and its portfolio of land and electricity connections under the agreement is around $10 billion.
The funding is anticipated to assist Lancium in growing its business as it considers a possible IPO in 2027.
SoftBank, OpenAI, and Oracle have formed a joint company called Stargate to construct data centers.
President Donald Trump of the United States proposed the idea in January, stating that businesses would contribute up to $500 billion to finance artificial intelligence infrastructure.
The Stargate initiative’s first operating site is the 1,000-acre Lancium Clean Campus in Abilene, Texas, which is owned by Lancium.
