Morocco: the African Development Bank supports the modernization of the African Center for Training and Administrative Research for Development (CAFRAD)

The African Development Bank, in partnership with the African Center for Training and Administrative Research for Development (CAFRAD), organized on Thursday February 25, a virtual seminar to present the new strategy for modernizing the said center.

Under the theme “Promoting good governance of regional public bodies: the example of CAFRAD”, the meeting brought together representatives of Moroccan authorities, the private sector and national partner institutions.

In the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, the event provided an opportunity to discuss the new challenges facing regional public bodies in Africa. The discussions focused on the presentation of CAFRAD’s new modernization strategy, which defines its strategic repositioning in the medium and long term.

This virtual seminar is part of a series of activities funded by a grant of US $ 670,000 from the African Development Bank, through its Technical Assistance Fund for Middle Income Countries.

The objectives of the Bank’s support were to strengthen the centre’s technical assistance capacities and improve the quality of its training programs. More specifically, this operation made it possible to carry out an institutional diagnosis of CAFRAD, to develop a three-year transformation plan and to define a resource mobilization strategy.

“CAFRAD plays a catalytic role in improving African governance, especially in the current context of crisis. A primordial role that the Kingdom of Morocco has always supported, ”said Ahmed Laamoumri, Secretary General of the Department for Administrative Reform at the Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Administrative Reform.

“Africa is able to rely on its own resources to develop. This no longer needs to be demonstrated. It is important to provide the continent with an increasingly strengthened governance framework in order to optimize its management, said the Director General of the African Development Bank for North Africa, Mohamed El Azizi. This is the priority that we are pursuing with our support to CAFRAD, for the benefit of African public institutions and, beyond that, the African populations. “

“We have contributed significantly to strengthening the human, institutional and financial capacities of CAFRAD. Our objective is to establish its status as a benchmark African center in the field of public governance ”, underlined the Director of the Office of Governance and the Coordination of Public Financial Management at the Bank, Abdoulaye Coulibaly.

“We would like to thank the Kingdom of Morocco and the African Development Bank, which have supported us in this important project to modernize CAFRAD, which is producing results,” said CAFRAD Director General Monney Mouandjo.
