Goldman Sachs’ $1 trillion first-half M&A volume creates a new benchmark for dealmaking.

The Wall Street giant stated in a LinkedIn post using Dealogic statistics that it has overseen over $1 trillion worth of announced mergers and acquisitions thus far in 2026, setting a record pace for any investment bank during a half-year period.

The investment bank overseeing SpaceX’s historic initial public offering as lead underwriter is the reason for the statistic. On Friday, Elon Musk’s company went public in New York.

Additionally, the bank served as a co-financial advisor to Dominion Energy in the company’s sale to NextEra Energy in a $66.8 billion deal that was disclosed last month.

CEO David Solomon stated in a different piece that while trading volumes have reached all-time highs as clients manage a variety of risk events, global M&A transactions have already surpassed $2.6 trillion this year as AI and strategic consolidation alter industries.

Despite the uncertainties surrounding the Middle East crisis, Wall Street executives predicted a solid year for M&A because of the growing momentum in AI and the friendlier regulatory climate under U.S. President Donald Trump.

“Despite the complex backdrop, CEOs and boards are taking a long-term strategic view to capture scale and amplify their competitive advantages,” stated Matt McClure, Goldman Sachs’ global co-head of investment banking.

With ongoing discussions taking place across all industries and transaction sizes, this impetus is being felt on a worldwide scale.

Goldman’s investment banking fees increased by 48% from the previous year to $2.84 billion in the first quarter. The bank’s shares have increased by almost 24% so far in 2026.

According to Dealogic data, Goldman Sachs maintained its top ranking as a global M&A advisor in 2026 after taking the lead last year. JPMorgan Chase takes over the second spot.
