The possible acquisition would help SoftBank founder Masayoshi Son’s growing interest in artificial intelligence (AI), as he is investigating the application of AI-powered robots in various industries and seeking to bolster the infrastructure required to support the technology.
Although the deployment of humanoid security personnel is probably going to take longer, SoftBank would eventually attempt to replace some employees with robots for specific security jobs with Allied.
SoftBank is well-known for investing heavily in technology through its Vision Fund. It has a majority ownership in Arm, was a key sponsor of the office-sharing firm WeWork, and was an early investor in Alibaba.
Following SoftBank’s $5.4 billion acquisition of the robotics division of the Swiss engineering giant ABB last year, the merger expands SoftBank’s efforts in robotics and automation.
