The first group of unlawful migrants with no right to stay in the UK will be informed this week of the government’s intention to move them to Rwanda under its new immigration plan, Britain said on Tuesday.
The government, which announced intentions to transfer asylum seekers to the East African country last month, said it expects attorneys representing some of those who have been told to file applications to prevent their removal, with the first flights scheduled “in the coming months.”
“This is just the beginning of the process,” Home Secretary Priti Patel said in a statement. “We know it will take time because some will want to stymie it and prolong removals.”
