Just 12 days after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit, which infuriated China, a delegation of American politicians is visiting Taiwan. In response to Pelosi’s visit, China sent missiles, battleships, and aircraft over the waters and the airspace surrounding Taiwan.
According to the American Institute in Taiwan, the five-person group, led by Massachusetts Democratic Sen. Ed Markey, is in Taiwan on Sunday and Monday as part of a trip to Asia. To address U.S.-Taiwan ties, regional security, trade, investment, and other topics, they will meet with senior leaders.
A U.S. government aircraft was seen in video landing at Songshan Airport in Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, at around 7 o’clock in the evening.
Taiwan is a self-governing island that China claims as its territory and opposes having any diplomatic relations with other nations.
