Police said Saturday that one man was killed and eight others were injured following a nighttime shooting at a gathering that drew around 100 people to a Southern California hookah lounge.
Sgt. Equino Thomas of the San Bernardino Police Department said officers found a man shot in the parking lot outside the strip mall lounge where the party had been publicized on social media in the city east of Los Angeles late Friday. Allen Gresham, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a police statement.
Hospitals treated eight people who were shot and injured. He said that some were brought by ambulance and others went on their own. Their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, according to police.
According to the police statement, two people were detained and one was arrested on suspicion of possessing a stolen pistol. They remained anonymous.
According to Thomas and the statement, the shooting began inside the hookah lounge after an argument, and people spilled out into the parking lot, where further shots were fired.
