Russia set to deploy Sarmat nuclear missile with multiple warheads.

After American claims that the weapon failed a recent test, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Thursday that the new Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile will be deployed this year.

The Sarmat, sometimes known as Satan 2 by Western experts, is one of Russia’s next-generation missiles that Putin has referred to as “invincible.” It can carry several nuclear warheads.

“We continue to pay particular emphasis to bolstering the nuclear triad. In a video issued by the Kremlin to commemorate Russia’s “Defender of the Fatherland Day,” he declared, “The first launchers of the Sarmat missile system will be placed on combat service this year.

Also, the speech was delivered one day before of the first anniversary of Russia’s military operation in the neighboring Ukraine.

Two unnamed US sources were quoted by CNN as claiming that the Sarmat looks to have failed a test this week.

Dmitry Peskov, a spokesperson for the Kremlin, declined to comment on the allegation on Wednesday, citing “the prerogative of the defense ministry.”

Putin has said that the powerful Sarmat missile, which can reach every location on Earth, will cause the Kremlin’s adversaries to “think twice.”

Putin said that Russia will cease its participation in the New START deal, the last-standing nuclear armaments agreement with America, during a state of the nation address on Tuesday.

Nonetheless, Russia later said that it would continue to abide by the treaty until its expiration in early 2026.
