MTN appoints Nokia to expand the 5G Network in South Africa.

While MTN South Africa continues to roll out next-generation wireless services throughout the nation, Nokia said on Monday that it had been chosen for the first time ever by the mobile carrier as one of its 5G radio access network equipment providers.

According to the agreement, Nokia will update the current 2G, 3G, and 4G radio networks and expand MTN’s 5G radio network across 2,800 stations in the country’s central and eastern regions. Financial information about the sale was withheld by Nokia.

MTN South Africa, the second-largest provider in the nation, purchased airwaves in a 14.4 billion rand spectrum auction in March of last year for 5.2 billion rands ($282.66 million). It had already started offering 5G services in a few places before the auction.
