Microsoft will invest an additional $10b to integrate the GPT3-based chatbot into its search engine Bing.

According to Semafor, Microsoft is negotiating to give ChatGPT owner OpenAI an additional $10 billion as part of its efforts to incorporate the GPT3-based chatbot into its Bing search engine.

Microsoft made a $1 billion investment in OpenAI in 2019 to speed up research into artificial general intelligence for “widely distributed economic benefits.”

The new interest in investing $10 billion might be directly related to ChatGPT’s increasing popularity because it can answer internet questions in conversational English, which is a very different approach from what Google and Bing now provide in the way of links.

The Wall Street Journal stated that OpenAI was looking to sell shares to venture capital firms at a valuation of $29 billion, and days later The Information revealed that Microsoft was in discussions with OpenAI to boost its interest in the company.

Requests for comment from Microsoft did not immediately receive a response.

According to Semafor research, Microsoft will ultimately control 75% of the OpenAI earnings until it receives a return on its investment. Following this, it is said that OpenAI’s organizational structure will alter to reflect Microsoft ownership at 49% together with other investors’ joint ownership of 49% and OpenAI’s nonprofit holding at 2% of the new business.

Elon Musk and Sam Altman established the artificial intelligence research and development firm OpenAI in 2015.

DALL-E 2, an artificial intelligence-based system that can produce realistic visuals and explain them using natural language processing, is another project that OpenAI is currently working on. It was previously announced by Microsoft that it intended to incorporate this artificial intelligence system into its Bing search engine.
