Meth concealed as coconut water valued at $140m was seized by Hong Kong customs in record haul.

In the largest-ever meth bust in Hong Kong, customs agents seized 1.8 metric tons (2 tons) of liquid methamphetamine, according to officials.

According to a government statement, the pills were hidden in bottles marked as coconut water in a cargo consignment that arrived in Hong Kong by sea on October 23. The haul is thought to be worth $140 million, or 1.1 billion Hong Kong dollars.

Out of the total 7,700 bottles, 1,800 were discovered by authorities to contain liquid meth. In terms of quantity and market value, the bust is the biggest meth case ever.

No one has been arrested in this matter, and authorities are currently looking into it.

Authorities who spoke during a news conference on Saturday claimed that the stash of cocaine had been smuggled from Mexico to Hong Kong with a final destination of Australia. The medications’ market value in Australia might be as high as HK$8 billion ($1 billion).

Given that it was unusually enormous for a shipment of coconut water from Mexico, the cargo aroused suspicion.

The discovery of meth is the second in less than two weeks in shipments from Mexico to Australia.

Earlier last month, customs agents discovered $5.9 million worth of crystal meth hidden in a shipment of electrical transformers from Mexico that was also headed for Australia.
