Mass shooting in Alabama nightlife district leaves 4 dead and 18 critically injured.

Four people were murdered and eighteen others were injured in a mass shooting that occurred early on Sunday in Birmingham, Alabama, in a well-known nightlife district.

Many of the victims were caught in the crossfire. While they looked for the shooters, authorities solicited the public for tips.

The incident occurred on Saturday night just after 11 p.m. in Five Points South, a neighborhood popular on weekends with plenty of dining options, pubs, and entertainment venues.

At a press conference on Sunday morning, Police Chief Scott Thurmond stated that several individuals drew up in a car, got out, fired shots, got back in the car, and drove away.

He said that the shooting might have been “a hit” carried out in return for money.

Following the discovery of two males and a woman with gunshot wounds on a sidewalk by officers, they were declared deceased.

According to authorities, a second man gunshot victim was declared dead at a hospital.

Thurmond, accompanied at the press conference by Mayor Randall Woodfin, representatives from the FBI, and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, stated that authorities believe the intended target was among the deceased.

Investigators think that there were further victims caught in the crossfire.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald wrote in an email that by early Sunday, when victims started to appear at hospitals, police had identified 18 people with injuries, some of which were potentially fatal.

Not one arrest was made right away. Authorities urged anyone with knowledge to get in touch with them.
