Japan’s Kishida says generative AI can enrich the world, revealing a framework for global regulation.

A global framework for the usage and regulation of generative AI was introduced by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on Thursday, contributing to the ongoing global efforts to manage this quickly developing technology.

During a speech to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in Paris, Kishida made the news.

According to Kishida, “generative AI has the potential to be a vital tool to further enrich the world.” However, “we also need to address the negative aspects of AI, like the possibility of misinformation.”

Japan started the Hiroshima AI project last year to create global guidelines and a code of conduct for AI developers while it led the Group of Seven major industrialized nations.

Without identifying any, Kishida stated that about 49 nations and areas had ratified the Hiroshima AI Process Friends Group, a voluntary framework. “Promote cooperation to ensure that people all over the world can benefit from the use of safe, secure, and trustworthy AI,” he said, adding that they will be working on putting principles and a code of conduct into practice to address the hazards of generative AI.

While international organizations like the United Nations have been debating how to oversee AI, the European Union, the United States, China, and many other countries have been racing to develop legislation and oversight for the technology.
