In Uganda, a Colombian researcher was crushed to death by an elephant.

Authorities say an elephant crushed to death a Colombian researcher studying chimps in Kibali National Park in western Uganda.

Sebastian Ramirez Amaya, a student at Arizona State University (ASU) in the United States, was slain in the jungle with his assistant on Sunday.

“They came upon a lone elephant that attacked them, forcing the two to flee in opposite directions,” Uganda Wildlife Authority said late Monday in a statement.

“Sebastian was pursued by the elephant, who stomped him to death.”

According to his online profile at ASU, Amaya was working on a doctorate on the social life of male and female chimps.

Three months ago, a Saudi tourist was murdered by an elephant in another national park 3 months ago.
