Huawei tri-fold phone garners 3m pre-orders to rival the new Apple iPhone 16.

According to the company’s website on Monday, the triple-folding smartphone from Chinese tech giant Huawei has received over 3 million pre-sales.

This news comes only hours before Apple launches its latest AI iPhone generation.

As stated on its WeChat social media account, Huawei’s Mate XT, a Z-shaped tri-fold phone, will be unveiled during a launch event on Tuesday.

Rather than paying a deposit, pre-ordering buyers will get information on how to buy the phone on Tuesday, the launch event day.

This strong pre-order number highlights Huawei’s ability to work around US sanctions and confirm its status as a major rival of Apple, which slashed prices early this year to maintain its market share.

Soon after Apple’s September 9 event, where the firm is expected to unveil its iPhone 16 series and highlight the incorporation of artificial intelligence elements in its flagship devices, Huawei will hold its launch event.

With a 42% domestic market share, Huawei was the largest seller of foldable phones in China during the second quarter, according to research firm IDC.
