After the family asked him to stop firing rounds in his yard because they were trying to fall asleep, the Texas man went next door with a rifle and started shooting his neighbors, killing an 8-year-old and four others inside the house, according to authorities on Saturday.
Following the overnight shooting in Cleveland, about 45 miles (72 kilometers) north of Houston, San Jacinto County Sheriff Greg Capers said investigators were still looking for the 39-year-old suspect. He claimed that the unnamed suspect shot the victim with an AR-style gun.
There were ten individuals in the house, according to Capers, and no one else was hurt. He claimed that two of the victims, who were all thought to be Hondurans, were discovered inside lying over two young children.
Capers remarked that the Honduran women covering the youngsters were doing so in an effort to protect them.
Family members approached the fence and asked the suspect to stop firing shots before the altercation took place, according to Capers. According to Capers, the suspect retaliated by claiming that it was his property and that someone inside the house had footage of him approaching the front door with the gun.
One male and three ladies were the victims. Their names weren’t made public. Capers reported that the victims ranged in age from 8 to roughly 40.
According to Capers, authorities have previously visited the suspect’s house. “Deputies have come over and spoken with him about shooting his gun in the yard,” he claimed.
Capers revealed that some of the residents had recently relocated from Houston earlier in the week, however, he was unsure of their plans for the future.
In 2023, the United States will commit more mass murders than ever before. Numerous factors contribute to the violence, including murder-suicides, domestic abuse, gang reprisals, school shootings, and workplace vendettas. Since January 1, all have simultaneously claimed the lives of four or more people.
