Google declared on Tuesday that it will build its first artificial intelligence hub in India by investing $15 billion over the next five years.
The hub, which is situated in Visakhapatnam in the south, would rank among Google’s biggest worldwide.
According to a statement from the corporation, it will have a larger fiber-optic network, massive energy infrastructure, and gigawatt-scale data center activities.
The investment highlights Google’s increasing dependence on India as a talent and technology hub in the global competition for supremacy in artificial intelligence.
It provides India with foreign investment and high-value infrastructure on a scale that can help it achieve its goals of digital transformation.
A new international subsea gateway will be built as part of Google’s AI hub initiative, which will link to the company’s more than 2 million miles (3.2 million kilometers) of current terrestrial and subsea cables.
According to the company’s announcement, “The initiative pioneers a generational shift in AI capability while creating substantial economic and societal opportunities for both India and the United States.”
Google CEO Sundar Pichai discussed the company’s ambitious objectives with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
On the social media site X, Pichai stated, “We will use it (the hub) to introduce our industry-leading technology to Indian businesses and users, accelerating AI innovation and propelling growth throughout the nation.”
According to Modi, the multifaceted investment supports India’s goal of becoming a developed nation.
It will have a significant impact on the democratization of technology. Additionally, it would guarantee AI for everyone, providing our population with state-of-the-art tools, strengthening our digital economy, and securing India’s position as a world leader in technology,” he stated.
In a statement, the business conglomerate Adani Group said that it had teamed up with Google to build the center.
