Police were looking for a man who planted a parcel bomb in the Cathedral of Toulouse in southwestern France on Friday, just days before the first round of voting in France’s presidential election on April 10.
Before fleeing, the man placed the package at the altar of the Cathedral in central Toulouse during mass at 0700 GMT. The tragedy occurred just a few weeks before the Easter holiday.
Due to failures, the homemade device, an acid container, did not explode. Bomb disposal units intervened.
On Friday morning, Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin tweeted: “The police operation in Toulouse has come to an end thanks to the quick intervention of bomb disposal services. There were no casualties. Thank you to all of the law enforcement agencies “
