Frans Timmermans, the head of the EU’s climate policy, announced on Wednesday at the COP27 meeting in Sharm El-Sheikh that the organization and four of its members will contribute more than 1 billion euros to climate adaptation efforts in Africa.
He stated that additional nations may join. The four members are France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Denmark.
The sum is a place to start, he remarked.
Timmermans added that the EU would contribute 60 million euros toward loss and damage and would offer suggestions for moving forward with loss and damage negotiations today.
