OpenAI is testing a search engine that leverages ChatGPT, which could directly compete with Google and impact the flow of users looking for news and other information online.
The SearchGPT tool will be previewed, according to San Francisco-based OpenAI, on Thursday to get input from a select number of publishers and users.
In May, Google completely changed its search algorithm so that written summaries created by AI now often ranked first in search results.
Laptops 1000The goal of the summaries is to promptly respond to a user’s search query, saving them from having to click on a link and visit another website to find out more.
Google’s transformation happened after a year of testing with limited users. However, mistakes were being made that demonstrated the dangers of giving AI chatbots control over information searches.
Microsoft, an early collaborator of OpenAI, is also experimenting with AI summaries on its Bing search engine.
