According to the government, a fire ravaged an expensive nightclub in Cameroon’s capital Yaounde early Sunday, killing at least 16 people and wounding eight more.
The authorities stated that “the incident was precipitated by the explosion of pyrotechnics commonly used in the nightclub,” adding that this caused a fire to break out on the ceiling, resulting in more explosions and fear throughout the venue.
According to the official statement, the fire occurred about 2.30 a.m. (0130 GMT), and authorities have launched an investigation.
