Amazon.com declared on Friday that it is reducing the number of positions at its Alexa voice assistant division, citing a stronger emphasis on generative artificial intelligence and “shifting” commercial priorities.
The email claims that “several hundred” staff who work on Alexa are impacted by the downsizing. The precise number of people impacted was not disclosed by a spokesman.
Over the past week, Amazon has been cutting back in a number of areas, including its gaming and music operations as well as certain HR positions.
