Amazon.com and Walmart boomed as US consumers spent over $10.8 billion online on Black Friday.

An updated figure from Adobe Analytics revealed that on Black Friday, American consumers spent over $10.8 billion online purchases using their smartphones, laptops, desktop computers, and other gadgets.

Retailers now compete fiercely to attract every frugal customer looking for deals as Black Friday, the day after American Thanksgiving, officially kicks off the holiday shopping season.

Amazon.com and Walmart are two e-commerce behemoths that may benefit from more online buying.

To increase e-commerce, Walmart, which has 4,700 locations in the US, has made significant investments in store-to-home deliveries for the holiday season.

Adobe, which tracks devices that use its software to enable more than 1 trillion visits to U.S. retail sites, reported that U.S. spending on the internet increased by 10.2% on Black Friday.

On Black Friday, 58-year-old Corey Coscioni claimed to have searched both online and in-store for “gifts for everyone: my wife, my daughter, and myself.”

According to Adobe on Saturday, the top-selling items on the internet were hair, skincare, beauty goods, espresso makers, and Bluetooth speakers.

Online sales of toys increased by 622% above the average daily sales in October, while sales of jewelry and appliances increased by 561% and 476%, respectively.

Since there are just 26 days between Thanksgiving and Christmas, department store chains like Macy’s and Kohl’s and big-box retailer Target may face a slowdown in sales this season.

According to Adobe, American consumers spent $9.8 billion and $9.1 billion online on Black Friday in 2023 and 2022, respectively.
