Microsoft Corp. co-founder Bill Gates stated on Monday that creating the best artificial intelligence agent—which has the potential to upend search engines, productivity software, and online shopping platforms—is the key to winning the technology race.
You won’t ever visit a search engine again, he predicted. “You won’t ever shop on Amazon.”
Gates said he would be disappointed if Microsoft was not a contender at AI Forward 2023, a conference in San Francisco organized by Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and SV Angel, albeit there is a 50% chance the winning company will be a startup.
Microsoft, Google, and Amazon.com Inc., all of which are owned by Alphabet Inc., did not immediately reply to requests for comment.
Entrepreneur Reid Hoffman co-founded Inflection AI, which intrigued Bill Gates.
A computer assistant that uses AI and can be controlled by voice commands or text commands has been developed by a number of industry participants.
Whoever secures the personal agent will win big, according to Gates.
