A 12-year-old kid shot a victim severally at a Texas Sonic restaurant, arrested with an accomplice.

According to police, two people have been detained on murder warrants in connection with the Texas murder of a Sonic Drive-In employee: a 12-year-old kid and a 20-year-old man.

As he battled with Angel Gomez, 20, in the restaurant parking lot in Keene, about 40 miles (64 kilometers) southwest of Dallas, Matthew Davis, 32, was shot and murdered, according to authorities.

According to a police statement, the child was at the restaurant with Gomez, who was causing an unexplained disturbance in the parking lot, then shot Davis many times after picking a revolver from Gomez’s car.

Police reported that Davis was taken to a hospital where he was later declared deceased.

According to Police Chief James Kidd, the child shot the victim with an AR-style weapon on Tuesday.

Both Gomez and the youngster rushed away from the scene, but Gomez subsequently returned and was detained on suspicion of murder. The boy, whose name has not been revealed, was discovered and detained in the nearby town of Rio Vista, according to authorities.

There are no formal charges listed in the court records.

The incident follows two large-scale shootings in Texas that brought attention to the issue of weapons.
