OpenAI unveils ‘o3’ reasoning AI models in bid to tackle complex problems.

In an indication of escalating competition with Google to develop more intelligent models that can handle challenging issues, OpenAI announced on Friday that it was testing new reasoning AI models, o3 and o3 mini.

According to CEO Sam Altman, the AI startup intends to release the mini o3 by the end of January and the full o3 later since more powerful large language models may perform better than current models and draw in more users and investors.

Microsoft is to spend more time processing inquiries and solving challenges. OpenAI launched its first AI models in September.

In a blog post, the AI company claimed that the O1 models could answer more difficult arithmetic, science, and coding challenges than earlier models and could reason through complicated tasks.

According to OpenAI, its recently released o3 and o3 mini models will be more potent than its earlier o1 versions. These models are presently undergoing internal safety testing.

Before the public release, which is scheduled to end on January 10, the GenAI pioneer announced that it is now accepting applications from outside researchers to test o3 models.

When OpenAI introduced ChatGPT in November 2022, it started an AI Gen race.

In October, OpenAI closed a $6.6 billion funding round, aided by the company’s increasing popularity and the introduction of new products.

Rival Alphabet’s Google released the second generation of its AI model Gemini in December, as the search giant aims to reclaim the lead in the AI technology race.
