Italy’s G7 summit to focus on Africa and the dangers of AI.

Italy intends to bring leaders of many African nations, as well as those from Argentina, Brazil, and India, to what are known as outreach sessions during the Group of Seven (G7) summit, which it will host in mid-June.

The United States, Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the European Union make up the G7. From June 13 to 15, the leaders’ summit will be held at Borgo Egnazia, a resort in the southeast region of Puglia.

The leaders of Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, and Kenya, as well as delegates from the African Union, would receive invitations.

As members of the larger G20 forum, South Africa, Brazil, and India were anticipated to join, invitations to more nations might come next.

Some perceive the G7 as an exclusive group of affluent countries. The G7 has been inviting other world leaders for a while now to seem more approachable and less distant.

The goal is to strengthen the agreement on important matters like relations with China and Ukraine.

Italy will have the G7’s rotating president in 2024, and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has stated that addressing the risks posed by artificial intelligence (AI) and the growth of Africa would be major topics of conversation.

Since entering office in late 2022, Meloni has made Africa a focal point of her foreign policy. In January, she initiated a project with many African states to strengthen economic connections, develop an energy hub for Europe, and reduce immigration.

As was the case in Japan last year, President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to attend the leaders’ summit and the war in Ukraine will certainly be a major topic of discussion.
