German police impound $103m fake US currency from Turkey destined for America.

German officials reported on Friday that they had found fake US dollar bills worth over $103 million. The bills appeared to have originated in Turkey and were being kept in storage before being shipped to the US.

The northernmost state of Germany, Schleswig-Holstein, has a criminal police office. They said that after receiving tips from American authorities, they searched two business addresses and an apartment and discovered 75 cartons of counterfeit dollars. The man in question is suspected of having previously exported counterfeit money to the United States through his companies.

When examined attentively, the bills—also referred to as “prop copy” or “movie money”—could be identified as fakes, but according to a statement from German authorities, American authorities, and the German central bank, people might mistake them for actual currency in daily situations.

They think the fakes originated from a Turkish wholesaler who temporarily stored the notes before shipping them to the United States at one of the suspect’s export companies in Juebek, close to the Danish border. The Turkish national, 42, is the subject of an investigation under Germany’s anti-counterfeiting law despite not having been taken into custody.
