China has announced plans to gradually remove American microprocessors from Intel and AMD from government servers and personal PCs, according to a report on Sunday.

According to the report, the procurement guidelines aim to substitute indigenous alternatives for Microsoft’s Windows operating system and database software manufactured abroad.

It has been stated that while making purchases, government entities higher up the township hierarchy have been instructed to incorporate requirements for “safe and reliable” processors and operating systems.

China’s industry ministry released a statement in late December, listing three different CPUs, operating systems, and a central database that are all from Chinese enterprises and are considered “safe and reliable” for three years after the date of publication.

The Biden administration’s 2022 CHIPS and Science Act aims to reduce US dependence on China and Taiwan while increasing local semiconductor output. It includes financial assistance for local production together with incentives for the production of cutting-edge chips, all to support US semiconductors.

Reports revealed earlier this week that the US is thinking of adding several Chinese semiconductor companies connected to Huawei to a blacklist.

According to the report, most Chinese firms that would be impacted were previously identified as chip-making facilities that Huawei had either acquired or was building in a presentation made by the Washington-based trade group Semiconductor Industry Association.

The chip manufacturers Qingdao Si’En, SwaySure, and Shenzhen Pensun Technology Co., or PST, are among the businesses that can be placed on a blacklist.

The Biden administration is also considering imposing penalties on ChangXin Memory Technologies Inc., China’s top memory chip manufacturer.
