SoftBank Arm is a chip designer to produce its own sophisticated semiconductor prototypes.

The Financial Times reported on Sunday (Apr. 23) that British chipmaker Arm is developing its own semiconductor to highlight the features of its products in an effort to draw in new clients and spur growth after it’s Initial Public Offering (IPO) later this year.

According to persons briefed on the plan and reported by FT, Arm will collaborate with manufacturing partners to produce the new semiconductor. The business has also established a new “solutions engineering” team that will oversee the creation of these prototype chips for mobile devices, laptops, and other gadgets.

The newest chip being developed by the SoftBank Group-backed startup, on which it only recently began to work, is “more advanced” than any other, according to the Financial Times, quoting industry executives.

According to FT, the chip designer is merely working on a prototype and has no ambitions to market or license the product.

Arm has collaborations with significant chip contract manufacturers and is a significant intellectual property supplier to several chip firms, particularly in the mobile phone industry.

Earlier this month, Intel declared that it would cooperate with Arm to make sure that chips for mobile phones and other items using Arm’s technology could be produced in Intel’s manufacturing facilities.
