The Daily Mail stated that despite Downing Street’s warning that it would trigger a general election; British lawmakers will attempt to remove Prime Minister Liz Truss this week.
According to the tabloid, which cited anonymous sources, more than 100 Conservative Party MPs are getting ready to send Graham Brady, the chairman of the committee that oversees the leadership election for the Conservative Party, letters of no confidence.
Since the country’s 2016 decision to leave the EU, Britain has lost three prime ministers.
The MPs would request Brady to inform Truss that “her time is up” or to change the political party rules for an immediate vote of confidence in her leadership.
According to the publication, Graham is reportedly opposed to the idea, saying that Truss and newly appointed Chancellor Jeremy Hunt should have a chance to present an economic plan in a budget on October 31.
Separately, The New York Times claimed that numerous MPs discussed removing Truss as the leader in closed-door meetings.
Truss, who won the leadership of the Conservative Party last month on the promise of lowering taxes, is now fighting for her political life after giving up key tenets of the program.
In the party, which is lagging behind the opposition Labor Party in polls, the upheaval has sparked discontent.
