President Joe Biden expressed concern on Monday that Russian President Vladimir Putin does not have a path out of the Ukraine conflict and said he was pondering what to do about it.
Biden, speaking at a campaign event in a Washington suburb, said Putin was mistaken in thinking that invading Ukraine would destabilize NATO and the European Union.
Instead, the US and a number of European countries have united behind Ukraine.
In March, robust Ukrainian resistance defeated Russia’s attack on Kyiv. Russia, which calls the invasion a “special military operation,” pushed more troops into Ukraine last month for a massive offensive in the country’s east, but progress has been slow.
Biden described Putin as a calculating man whose current concern is that the Russian leader “doesn’t have a way out right now, and I’m trying to figure out what we can do about it.”
