Russian cruise missiles destroyed the S-300 anti-aircraft systems given to Ukraine by an EU member state.

On Monday, Russia announced that cruise missiles were used to destroy S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems given to Ukraine by an unnamed European country.

According to the defense ministry, Russia launched Kalibr cruise missiles on Sunday targeting four S-300 units hidden in a hangar on the outskirts of the Ukrainian city of Dnipro.

According to Russia, the attack resulted in the deaths of 25 Ukrainian forces.

According to the ministry, “high-precision sea-launched Kalibr missiles damaged the equipment of an S-300 anti-aircraft missile division that had been given to the Kyiv government by a European country.”

The European country that delivered the S-300 systems was not named by Russia.

Slovakia, a NATO member that had delivered such a missile system to Ukraine, said it had not been attacked.

“Our S-300 was not damaged,” claimed Lubica Janikova, a spokesperson for the Slovak government.

According to the Russian defense ministry, Russian forces also shot down two Ukrainian Su-25 aircraft near the city of Izium and damaged two munitions stores, one of which was near the southern city of Mykolaiv.

A request for a response from the Ukrainian military was not immediately returned.
