Oil embargo is a declaration of economic war by the U.S on Russia – Kremlin

On Wednesday, the Kremlin accused the US of declaring economic war on Russia that was wreaking havoc on energy markets and warned the US that it was considering its options in response to a ban on Russian oil and energy.

Following Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, the West slapped punishing sanctions on practically the entire Russian financial and business sector, causing Russia’s economy to suffer its worst crisis since the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991.

Dmitry Peskov, a Kremlin spokesperson, described the West’s sanctions as a “hostile bacchanalia” that has roiled world markets, warning that it was unknown how far the turbulence on global energy markets would go.

“You see the bacchanalia, the hostile bacchanalia, which the West has sowed,” Peskov said. “Of course, this makes the situation very difficult and encourages us to think carefully.”

When asked about US President Joe Biden’s announcement of a ban on Russian oil and energy imports, Peskov said Russia has been, was, and would continue to be a reliable energy supplier.

Moscow, on the other hand, is now seriously considering a reaction, according to Peskov.

“The situation necessitates a thorough examination of President Biden’s decisions,” Peskov said. “If you’re asking me what Russia will do, I’ll tell you that Russia will do whatever it takes to protect its interests.”

“The United States has clearly declared and is waging an economic war against Russia,” he said.
