600k vehicles to be recalled by Hyundai, Kia to fix trunk latch problem

Hyundai and Kia are recalling over 600,000 vehicles in the U.S. since damage to the trunk latches can prevent them from being opened from within.

The recall covers from 2016 through 2018 Kia Forte and 2018 and 2019 Kia Rio small cars. Likewise included are Hyundai Sonatas from 2017 and 2018, 2016 through 2018 Sonata Crossovers, 2018 through 2020 Hyundai Accents, and 2016 and 2017 Hyundai Azera vehicles.

Records posted Friday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration say that an individual inside the trunk could become trapped because of the issue.

Dealers will supplant the trunk latches at no expense for owners. Kia owners will be informed via mail beginning Oct. 5. Hyundai owners will be informed beginning Oct. 1.
